Moodle Moot US 2015, Minnesota, August 4-6, 2015
The versatility of the Database Activity allows Moodlers to explore every creative set up you can think of, if you are willing to take up the challenge! In this presentation, I will demonstrate 3 creative uses of the Database activity by our teachers, students and staff at Rutgers Biomedical & Health Sciences, and will show how to set them up:
- Student Use: Physician Assistants completing their Clinical Rotations are using the Database as a private submission drop box for their Rotation Journals, which are reviewed and approved by their assigned Advisors. Advisors can then return graded journals to each student along with comments on the entry. This set up was preferred by the students over 10+ assignment drop box links for each rotation.
- Staff Use: The Database has been used to create a Support Log for entering a record of support phone calls, tracking the status of each support ticket, duration of calls, assigned staff, problem areas and resolutions.
- Teacher Use: A Medical Class with multiple guest speakers who teach various aspects of the course is using the Database tool as a Course Resource Repository. The guest speakers submit their course documents via the database, the course manager reviews and approves them, and the approved resources then become available to the students.
There are so many more uses for the Database activity beyond what I am presenting. I will mention a couple more examples and hopefully you will be inspired and challenged to come up with more innovations yourself.
